the writing life: secret no. 3.
7:57 PMAs writers often we need to get out of our own way and have a little faith in our ability to communicate what only we can.
It's advice I must continually remind myself of. I'm a professional, yet most days I am certain I should leave good writing to THOSE COOLER FOLKS who have it mastered. I'm a perfectionist, and the inner editor tends to whisper 'nobody cares what you think about this crap anyway.' I would never have the guts to submit a thing or subject my ego to this abuse if I didn't have a little hope, a little belief in my skill to write. Even if you have to fake that belief for awhile, it just may help the writing.
